Every Good Neighbours group is independent, and they all offer a slightly different range of services.
Here are some of the services that Good Neighbours provide.
Befriending
Befriending is an organised and supported helping relationship between two people: a volunteer and someone who would like a little company.
Befriending can be organised in person or by telephone, depending on the needs of the client and the volunteer
A befriending volunteer is not there to solve a persons' problems or take the place of other services such as home help, personal care or counselling.
But the benefits to both parties are enormous: as trust grows, a befriending relationship can enhance a person's capacity to use their own resources and to access services.
If this sounds like something that would help you, or something you would like to volunteer to do, get in touch with the nearest Good Neighbours group that provides befriending services and talk it through with them
Gardening and DIY
When people become ill, or get older, they are very commonly become less able to look after their home and garden.
That is when the services of a Good Neighbours DIY or gardening volunteer become invaluable.
It makes an enormous difference to have a clean and tidy home and garden, and it is reassuring to know that help is on hand when it is needed.
If you need a little help with gardening or DIY, or if you would like to volunteer to be a good neighbour and help someone out, please get in touch.
Hospital and GP transport
Driving people to their hospital or doctor's appointments is an incredibly valuable service. Our volunteers are out doing this every single day, all over Hampshire and beyond.
Many of our groups provide a hospital driving service, and some of them offer only this service.
The work involves collecting someone from their home and driving them to their appointment. We give groups free hospital car parking permits, and the drivign volunteers are experts at knowing where the various hospital departments are.
Normally, the volunteer will sit and wait with the client, who is sometimes nervous or infirm.
We provide training in the correct and safe way to get people in and out of cars.
Hospital and GP transport is an incredibly valuable service. Once signed up with a group, you can specify which dates you are available, and drive as much or as little as you wish, within reason.
Usually the client will make a small donation to the group which is used to cover the cost of the petrol at the HMRC mileage rate, and any other expenses incurred. The expectation is that a driving volunteer should never be left out of pocket.

Prescriptions collection
A simple service that is worth its weight in gold.
Many people struggle to get to the chemists to collect their prescriptions. Our volunteers are able to do this.
If you need this service, or if you would like to volunteer, please get in touch with your nearest Good Neighbours group.
